OAACC instituted this award to acknowledge small businesses and entrepreneurs who have made significant contribution to improving the quality of life in our region. It is named for Oscar J. Coffey, Jr., who was the original organizer of the Black Chamber of Commerce for Oakland and later became the president of the U.S. African-American Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Coffey was passionate about helping small businesses succeed. Employing a style of quiet leadership, he worked with commitment and diligence to make a difference at the community, state, and national levels.

Merriwether & Williams support and advocacy of community initiatives, programs, and nonprofit organizations have helped empower local residents and make Bay Area a healthier, more prosperous place.
